Reflective Journal for
Summer RS Class (July)
The module EDN-418, Information Communication
Technology in Teaching and Learning (ICT) was offered to student teachers
(final year) as an optional. We were given three optional module such as (ICT,
guidance and Counselling, and Action Research).Out of these three modules I
have chosen to take up ICT because of fact that, firstly I got opportunity to
acquired basic concept of ICT training offered by Chiphen Rigphel in 2012, Secondly,
my interest in learning ICT was really improved by the additional knowledge
given by our tutor in DE first year (FIT) module presented by Mr. RS Tamang and
thirdly ICT knowledge is very much required in teaching and learning in twenty
first century. Owning to this very
reason our tutor has presented us with the basic skills on five
important topics which are very much informative to us and the explanations on
such topic are as follows;
1) Informative
Tool: The computer can provide vast amounts of
information in various forms, such as text, teaching learning materials, audio,
graphics, sound and video. Even multimedia encyclopedias are today available on
the internet. Along the constructivist point of view, it is not enough for
learners to download relevant information using the computer as an information
tool. Students can use gathered information for composition or presentation
projects/ assignment as may be assigned by the teachers. Given the fact that
the internet can serve as a channel for global communication, the computer can
very well be the key tool for video teleconferencing sessions. In just a click away, you can easily
find information that required thorough research in library nooks.
Communicative
Tools: The
Computer as a communication tool with the existence of social networking sites
such as face book, Skype, email, blogs, wiki, and twitter, to enhance teaching and learning. We can also communicate easy and fast
with friends, relatives or family members regardless of their time period and address.
Constructive
Tools: The
computer allows our mind to construct or build our own knowledge, manipulate
information, received and visualize one's understanding and building new
knowledge. The Microsoft Word computer program itself is desktop publishing
software that allows users to organize and present their ideas in attractive
formats.
4) Co-constructive
Tools: Students can use constructive tools to work
cooperatively and construct a shared understanding of new knowledge. On ways of
co- constructive is the use of the electronic whiteboard where students may
post notices to a shared document/whiteboard. Students may also co-edit the
same document from their homes.
5) Situating Tools:
By means of virtual reality (RS) extension systems, the computer can create 3-D
images on display to give the user the feeling that are situated in a virtual
environment. A flight simulation program is an example of situating tool which
places the user in a simulated flying environment use simulations and games to
enhance teaching and learning.
Reflection
on survey questioner
We were also
asked to create a survey questioner on any topic using the Google form during RS class. It was
quite interesting but at the same time it was challenging as I was using it for
the first time. Never the less I could do it without much problem with the help from my tutor and my friends. After having done this
assignment I came to understand that Google drive is like a pen drive where we
can store information, we can view each other’s work, cans response, share and
learn more. This was one important skill I have learnt during RS class, as a teacher,
it would help us in designing different types of questions, to collect and
gather information within a short time.
I would like to
thank our tutor Mr Changa Dorji for providing us with the knowledge on ICT and
I am sure it will be useful throughout my teaching profession.
